Volunteer
Our special family of volunteers contributes greatly
to the success of Poppy Mountain. They assist in many ways and
are greatly appreciated not only by Marty and Tina but also by
the many festival guests. The spirit of Poppy Mountain is due to
our volunteers throughout the year as well as during the big event
itself too.
You may be interested in becoming part of this venture. If this
sound like hard work (but tons of fun!!) read the following and
decide if volunteering is for you. If
you choose to volunteer, submit a completed online application
to our Volunteer Coordinator. Any further questions may be directed to the Volunteer Coordinator
Tina Tackett by e-mail or telephone (606) 784-2277.
Our Volunteer Staff is young, but growing. Currently, most of
our volunteers are middle-aged with a small percentage of teens
who have done a great job so far! Many families plan their vacations
around the 3rd week of September to attend and volunteer! We are
currently SEEKING Crew Chiefs !
Volunteers must be at least 14 years of age. Volunteers between
14-18 years of age must submit parental consent. Some assignments
require that a minor work with on the same crew with a parent at
least 1 year. Volunteers must be at least 18 to assist in the Traffic
and Safety Teams.
Work Schedules vary from crew to crew. Some crews have night shifts
while others have between 4-8 hour shifts, depending upon needs.
Descriptions of crews may be downloaded below.
Volunteers must be available to work at least 4 hours each day
and at least 4 days of the festival.
Priority is given to volunteers who arrive first (the early bird
gets the worm...). Our clean up crew starts the Sunday prior to
the festival and some crews begin the day the festival officially
begins while others may begin after the festival has started!
The Volunteer Coordinator makes crew assignments and assigns the
crew chiefs in scheduling on a first come first served basis. We
will try to assign you where and when you wish, but this is not
always possible.
Many Poppy mountain Bluegrass Volunteers return each year. This
is beneficial to our event and thus priority is given to those
experienced volunteers, then to new volunteers to be taught with
experienced volunteers. There may be no openings on some crews
for this reason. |
